But when Jeanne is deemed a “witch” by the Lord’s mistress, she is shunned by everyone, including her husband, and forced to hide in the wilderness. Consequently, Jeanne learns that the spirit helping her is the devil. Immediately, she makes a pact with him to become a powerful witch, so she can gain control over the people who shunned and abused her.
